Mangroves
Restoration of mangrove ecosystems boosts community climate resilience and adaptation while aiding biodiversity conservation and GHG absorption. Healthy mangroves increase forest cover, enhance fish populations, and provide crucial protection from cyclones on India's eastern coast. As excellent carbon sinks, they absorb up to five times more carbon than mature land trees. Additionally, mangroves modulate silt transfer to the sea, significantly impacting river systems on land.
SGI Foundation restores vital mangrove ecosystems, enhancing coastal protection and biodiversity. Our projects focus on replanting degraded areas, engaging local communities, and promoting sustainable practices. We plant native species, monitor ecosystem health, and support eco-friendly livelihoods. These efforts boost biodiversity, enhance fishery resources, and sequester carbon, contributing to climate mitigation. SGI Foundation’s work ensures long-term sustainability and resilience of coastal ecosystems.
